Our Policy Review has a 5 step process:
- Understanding
We develop an understanding of the policy.
What is the intent behind the policy? How does it deliver this? Why is it necessary? Who is responsible for the policy? When was the policy written and last updated? - Analysis
We look through the policy for anything of importance and consider the following:
How does it impact the policy? Is the language or intent inclusive? Could this be used to misinterpret the policy? Does this benefit any group or individual over another? Would you consider this to be good practice? Is this still relevant? - Compare to best practice
Once we understand the policy and have done the first analysis, we seek out best practice.
ACAS and CIPD provide guidance for almost all policies, we seek out advice on equality, diversity and inclusion, we seek out similar policies, and engage with stakeholders to understand needs - consider ERGs, EDI leads, focus groups. - Identify good practice and potential gaps
We have an understanding of best practice and the policy and apply this to a positive and gaps analysis
Inclusive language
Consideration for employees
What isn’t considered?
What changes are necessary? - Solutionise
We then provide recommendations for amending the policy using the following framework:
What is the gap? Why is this an issue? Who is impacted? How can this be resolved?
How big an issue is it to the organisation/policy?
